Tongues wag as KSA’s Fender guitar fetches record N52m in auction



Social media went into a meltdown after the priceless Fender guitar owned by King Sunny Ade was auctioned for a record sum of N52 million at KSA’s 70th birthday concert staged in Lagos at the weekend.
Reports say the guitar which was designed by Nigerian artist, Victor Ehikamenor was auctioned by Dr. Jogun Onabanjo, a certified auctioneer and chief executive of Onabanjo and Onabanjo & Co.
The Fender guitar- a glittering piece of art was placed on the block at the concert which witnessed the gathering of the cream of Nigeria’s top celebrities, not forgetting the high and mighty in the Nigerian social circle who came out in their numbers to witness the epoch making event.
According to reports, the bidding war which included the likes of Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola opened at N9 million before closing at the humongous sum of N52 million with the eventual winner of the auction not revealed.
However, reports say while the bidding war which took place at the Temple Balmoral Marquee, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, was in progress, the asking price for the guitar doubled to N17 million in two minutes before exceeding the N50 million mark in 15 minutes.
As expect social media was abuzz with reactions following the development which caught many by suprise.

Also DaddyMO @officialdaddymo tweeted thus: “What recession??? King Sunny Ade’s guitar went for N52.1million from a starting of N9m…Legendary!!!!! #SunnyOnSunday”.
