American Singer Solange Knowles Is Coming To South Africa

US singer and songwriter Solange Knowles is coming to South Africa for the first time later this year. She will perform live and headline the Afropunk Festival taking place on December 30-31 in Johannesburg. Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Solange confirmed the news with a list of performers.


The global AFROPUNK events have taken place in New York, Atlanta, Paris and London throughout the festival’s 14-year history. And now, it’s finally coming to Africa. The global festival that has been one of the biggest cultural movements for the past 14 years is storming South Africa with a two-day musical extravaganza in Joburg. As the headline for the event, the Cranes in the Sky singer will be dishing out tunes from her recent and most popular album, A Seat at the Table. She’s also expected to perform hits from some of her previous work.
Also joining Solange on the Afropunk stage is American singer Anderson Paak who took to Twitter to confirm it.

Tonight American TV personality Sal Masekela announced the first batch of performers who will grace the stage. So far, several artists have been named and they include; Grammy Award winner Solange Knowles; Anderson Paak; Laura Mvula, King Tha vs Blk Jks, Theo Parrish, The Brother Moves On, Spoek Mathambo, Black Motion, Gods Sons & Daughters, OKZharp & Manthe Ribane, DJ Lag, Urban Village, Nakhane Toure, Nonku Phiri and TCIYF. Subsequently, more artists will be added to the AFROPUNK Joburg line-up leading up to the December event. The theme for this year’s festival is We The People.
